  18. Description of Working Group:
  19. The Network Database Working Group is chartered to define a standard
  20. interface among databases on TCP/IP networks.  The Working Group will
  21. address the issue of database connectivity in a distributed environment
  22. which allows authorized users remote access to databases.  It will be
  23. designed as a client/server model based on TCP/IP as its communication
  24. protocol.
  25.  
  26. Several problems must be resolved that are associated with the network
  27. database protocol, such as management of multiple threads between
  28. clients and servers, management of multiple servers, management of data
  29. buffers, data conversions, and security.
  30.  
  31. Additional related problems will be covered as the discussion goes on.
  32. Therefore, the description and the schedule can be revised.
  33.  
  34. This Working Group is independent from the SQL access group; however,
  35. there may be some overlapping interest.  The SQL access group is welcome
  36. to join IETF's discussions and share information in both directions.
  37. If both groups find that merging two efforts into one will speed up the
  38. process, the merge can be done in the future.  For now, this Working
  39. Group works on issues according to its own schedule and efforts.

  44.      Done Review and approve the Charter, making any changes necessary.        
  45.           Examine needs, resources for this network database protocol          
  46.           and define the scope of work. Begin work on a framework for the      
  47.           solution.  Assign writing assignments for first draft of the 
  48.           document.

  50.      Done First draft to be completed.                                         
  51.  
  52.      Done Review first draft document, determine necessary revisions.          
  53.           Discuss problems remained unsolved from the first IETF meeting.

  55.      Done Continue revisions based on comments received at meeting and         
  56.           e-mail.  Start making document an Internet-Draft.

  58.    Mar 92 Review final draft.  If it is OK, give it to IESG for publication    
  59.           as RFC.

  61.    Jun 92 Revise document based on implementations.  Ask IESG to make          
  62.           the revision a Draft Standard.
